The 24th issue of the "Newsletter of Environmental, Disaster, and Crisis Management Strategies", published under the auspices of the Master's Program "Environmental, Disaster and Crisis Management Strategies" of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens presents the forest fire occurred in the area of Arapaka on July 3, 2021, affecting the mountainous areas of the provinces of Larnaca and Limassol.
The issue entitled “The early July 2021 Arakapas (Cyprus) forest fire” includes a review of the distribution of forest areas in Cyprus with their dominant species, and the main threats to forest ecosystems in Cyprus. In addition, forest fire statistics for the period from 2000 to 2019 on the island are reported, including the number of forest fires and burned areas, as well as examples of recent catastrophic forest fires in Cyprus.
